Udok Performing Arts Presents: A Golden Tribute to Guru Padmashri Geeta Chandran’s 50-Year Dance Journey

Padmashri Geeta Chandran : Udok Performing Arts, a distinguished classical dance institution founded in 2003 and led by Kolkata-based Bharatanatyam dancers Moumita Chatterjee and Rajib Saha (disciples of Guru Padmashri Geeta Chandran), proudly celebrated the Golden Jubilee of Guru Padmashri Geeta Chandran’s illustrious 50-year journey in Bharatanatyam with the Prarambha Dance Festival. The event took place on 2nd September at the Gyan Manch Auditorium, Kolkata.

Udok Performing Arts has successfully organized classical dance festivals for the past 14 years, both in India and internationally, including the Margam for Seniors Festival and the Prarambha for Next Gen Festival.

The celebration united artists and dance aficionados to pay tribute to Padmashri Geeta Chandran’s extraordinary contributions to Bharatanatyam. The Prarambha Dance Festival featured performances by Madhura Bhrushundi, a Bharatanatyam dancer from Delhi (disciple of Guru Geeta Chandran); Soumita Sen, a Bharatanatyam dancer from Kolkata (disciple of Rajib Saha & Moumita Chatterjee); Vempati Lakshmi Kameswari, a Kuchipudi dancer from Chennai (disciple of Guru Sremoyee Vempati); and Nilopa Maitra, a Kathak dancer from Kolkata (disciple of Guru Paramita Maitra). These artists showcased the rich legacy of classical dance through their expressive and powerful performances.

Rajib Saha and Moumita Chatterjee, the Directors of Udok Performing Arts in Kolkata and Sydney, emphasized the importance of honoring the art of dance, celebrating dedication, and passion through classical Indian dance forms.
