Akhilesh Yadav Demands Judicial Investigation into Muzaffarnagar Police Order
Before the start of the Kanwar Yatra, Muzaffarnagar issued an order requiring shopkeepers along the Kanwar route to display their names outside their shops. Signboards have also been put up on fruit stalls. Akhilesh Yadav has raised questions about this order and has demanded a judicial investigation into the matter through a tweet on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
In his tweet, the Samajwadi Party chief asked how one can deduce someone’s religion based on names like Guddu, Munna, Chotu, or Fatte. Raising this question, Akhilesh Yadav emphasized that the court should take suo motu cognizance of the entire incident. He further stated that this order indicates the ill intentions of the Muzaffarnagar administration. Not only the administration but also the court should investigate the intent behind such governance and take appropriate punitive action.

It is to be noted that Muzaffarnagar SSP Abhishek Singh issued an order requiring all shopkeepers, hotel owners, and stall owners along the Kanwar route to display their names outside their establishments. This issue arose last year as well when Swami Yashveer Maharaj of an ashram located on National Highway 58 made a similar demand. With this demand resurfacing, the Muzaffarnagar administration issued the order again. Now, this order has sparked political controversy.
