Government Bans 156 FDC Drugs, Stirring Up the Pharmaceutical Market

Government Bans 156 FDC Drugs : The central government has imposed a ban on 156 Fixed Dose Combination (FDC) drugs, causing a significant stir in the pharmaceutical market. In response, most companies have decided to withdraw these drugs from the market. Additionally, the Pharmacist Federation has launched an awareness campaign to discourage the use of these drugs, which has already begun on social media.

The Gazette notification issued by the central government lists 156 banned drugs, including those for allergies, antibiotics, pain relief, fever, blood pressure, and vitamins. These drugs were previously easily available in medical stores.

Banned Drugs:

The list includes combinations such as Paracetamol, Tramadol Tarin, and Caffeine, which can cause damage to the kidneys, liver, and other organs. Other notable names on the list include Combiflam, Panadol Extra, Bolini, Nimesulide, Paracetamol Syrup, Sucralfate Acelofenac, Azithromycin, Adapalene, Chlorphenesin, Zinc Oxide, Miconazole, Tinidazole, Tetracycline, and Colistin Sulfate.

It is estimated that the value of these drugs in the state’s pharmaceutical market is around ₹50 crores. According to pharmaceutical traders, these drugs have already been removed from the drug markets in Agra, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, and Varanasi. Companies have assured agency holders and wholesale traders that the banned drugs will be recalled.

Assistant Commissioner Brajesh Kumar stated that after the notification was issued, all drug inspectors were directed to stop the sale of these drugs in their respective areas. Where these banned drugs are found, action will be taken against the concerned individuals.
