Kolkata. The horrific incident of rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata has sparked nationwide outrage. President Droupadi Murmu has expressed deep anger and distress over the incident, stating that she is profoundly saddened and alarmed by it. She called for immediate action to curb crimes against women, declaring that “enough is enough.” According to her, the time has come for India to confront the “perversion” of crimes against women and to challenge the mindsets that perceive women as “weaker, less capable, and less intelligent.”
President Murmu, voicing her anger over the rising crimes against women, emphasized that no civilized society can tolerate such atrocities against its daughters and sisters. She urged the citizens of the country to raise their voices against these crimes, adding that she herself is deeply enraged by the situation.
In her article titled “Women’s Safety: Enough is Enough,” President Murmu shared her thoughts on the issue. She stressed the urgent need to address the growing problem of crimes against women seriously, ensuring that they are stopped at their roots. She asserted that it is our duty to take every possible step to free our daughters from the fear of such crimes.
Referring to the 2012 Delhi Nirbhaya case, she pointed out that although many plans and strategies were implemented afterward, several painful incidents have repeatedly shaken the nation. She questioned whether we have truly learned from our past mistakes, noting that as public outrage fades, these incidents often recede into the depths of social memory, only to be recalled when another heinous crime occurs.
President Murmu called for greater awareness regarding women’s safety across the country, urging India to confront its past and take strong measures against crimes committed against women.
