Resignation of Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, Hemant Soren Set to Return as CM

Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren has resigned, paving the way for Hemant Soren to potentially reclaim the position. Champai Soren tendered his resignation on Wednesday evening, submitting it to the Governor. Hemant Soren has now staked claim to form the government. Champai Soren stated that he has worked according to the decision of the coalition. In response, Hemant Soren acknowledged Champai’s statement, emphasizing it was a coalition decision. Champai’s tenure as CM lasted only 152 days, beginning on February 2, 2024.

Champai submitted letters of support from the Mahagathbandhan MLAs to the Governor. The Governor may now invite Hemant Soren to take oath at any time. Earlier, a meeting of the MLAs was held at the CM’s residence in Ranchi, where Hemant Soren was elected as the leader of the legislative party. All MLAs have been instructed to stay at the CM’s residence.

Former CM Hemant Soren was released from jail just five days ago. Today, an India Block meeting was held at the CM’s residence, attended by JMM-Congress and RJD MLAs and ministers.
